I. Client Background
The client is a Japanese metal manufacturing company that has long supplied metal frames, equipment housings, control cabinets, and sheet metal structural components to manufacturers of industrial equipment, electrical equipment, and machinery. The client possesses mature sheet metal processing and metal welding production lines, primarily using cold-rolled steel sheets and galvanized steel sheets. Some products need to be installed in factory workshops, warehouse areas, and semi-outdoor environments, thus requiring high levels of surface protection and appearance quality.
As the client's orders have increased, the existing powder coating supply plan has become increasingly insufficient to meet the requirements of some new products. Particularly with dark-colored coating products, the client desires to further improve the surface uniformity and batch-to-batch color stability after spraying.
II. Client Needs
Through initial communication, our company understands that the client's main needs are as follows:1. Improve the spraying coverage of complex workpieces
The equipment frames and metal housings produced by the client have bends, welds, grooves, and connections, making some areas prone to uneven powder coverage.
2. Maintain Stable Color and Surface Finish
The customer primarily produces black and dark gray powder coatings commonly used in industrial equipment, and requires consistent color, gloss, and texture across different batches of powder.
3. Adaptability to Existing Powder Coating Production Lines
The customer already has automated electrostatic powder coating equipment and therefore requires the new powder to be well-matched with existing spray guns, spray booths, and curing equipment to minimize production line modification costs.
4. Meet the Protection Requirements of Industrial Products
Some metal equipment requires long-term use; therefore, the customer is concerned about coating adhesion, corrosion resistance, weather resistance, and surface abrasion resistance.
5. Establish Stable Long-Term Supply Relationships
In addition to product performance, the customer is also concerned about the delivery time, packaging, color batch stability, and after-sales technical support for the powder coating.
III. Our Solution
Based on the customer's product structure and actual production processes, our technical team recommended high-performance polyester powder coatings and provided black and dark gray samples according to the customer's color requirements.During the sample stage, we did not immediately begin mass production. Instead, we first performed color matching based on the metal samples provided by the customer and provided small-batch samples for trial spraying on the customer's actual production line.
1. Providing Powder Coating Solutions for Different Workpieces
For customers' industrial frames, equipment housings, and metal structural components, our company considers workpiece size, substrate, structural complexity, and operating environment to recommend appropriate powder coatings.
The black and dark gray products feature a fine-textured matte finish, giving industrial equipment a more stable and uniform appearance.
2. Assisting Customers with On-Site Trial Spraying
After receiving samples, customers conduct trial spraying on their existing automated powder coating production line.
Based on customer feedback, we provide adjustments to process parameters such as spraying voltage, spray gun distance, spray gun angle, and powder coating amount, focusing on improving powder coverage in welds, bends, and grooved areas.
3. Conducting Small-Batch Validation
After the initial trial spraying, customers conduct small-batch production validation to confirm the coating's color, gloss, leveling, adhesion, and overall appearance.
Based on actual production feedback from customers, we further adjust the product solution to better suit their existing production processes.
4. Establishing a Stable Supply Plan
After successful sample validation, customers purchase a batch of powder for formal production. After the initial batch of products was completed, the customer confirmed the coating effect and its adaptability to production.
In subsequent cooperation, our company managed colors and product models according to the customer's order requirements, maintaining stable batch quality and packaging methods to ensure continuous supply.
IV. Cooperation Results
In practical applications, our powder coatings adapted well to the customer's existing electrostatic powder coating production line. The coating appearance of black and dark gray products remained uniform, and the coverage of complex structural areas was also improved. The customer subsequently expanded the application of powder coatings from some equipment racks to metal casings, control cabinets, support frames, and other sheet metal structural components.
This cooperation not only helped the customer obtain a more stable supply of powder coatings but also reduced the production adjustment costs that might have been incurred when changing suppliers through preliminary sample verification and technical communication.
Currently, both parties have established a long-term cooperative model based on stable supply, color customization, technical support, and continuous communication.
