Project Background
The client is an Indonesian automotive aluminum alloy wheel manufacturer. They primarily produce automotive aluminum alloy wheels, which require pretreatment, electrostatic spraying, and baking curing before entering subsequent production stages.Since wheels are automotive exterior parts, the client is not only concerned with the protective performance of the powder coating but also highly values the color, gloss, surface smoothness, and overall visual effect after spraying.
Client Needs
The client's existing wheel products mainly use black and silver-gray colors, placing high demands on the powder coating.In initial communication, the client emphasized the following requirements:
1. A uniform coating effect on the wheel surface is required;
2. Black products require stable color and uniform gloss;
3. Silver-gray products require a good metallic texture;
4. Good coverage is required for wheel edges, grooves, and spoke connections;
5. The powder coating needs to be compatible with the client's existing electrostatic spraying production line;
6. Color consistency needs to be maintained between different batches during mass production.
Our Solution
Based on the customer's wheel material, product structure, and existing spraying process, our technical team recommended a powder coating solution suitable for aluminum alloy wheels and conducted sample matching for the customer's commonly used black and silver-gray colors.During the sample stage, we focused on adjusting the powder's application performance, leveling effect, color, and surface finish.
Because automotive wheels have numerous spokes, grooves, and complex structures, we also matched the powder coating's application effect to the customer's spray gun parameters and spraying method, helping the customer improve the coverage of complex areas.
After actual spraying and baking curing, the black wheel surface exhibited a uniform black coating, while the silver-gray wheel surface had a good metallic texture. The overall coating appearance met the customer's product requirements.
Cooperation Results
After sample confirmation, the customer applied our powder coating to the mass production of wheels and gradually expanded the scope of procurement.In subsequent cooperation, we continued to provide product support based on the customer's different wheel models and color requirements, and assisted the customer in color confirmation and product adjustments.
This collaboration addressed the customer's needs regarding the complex structure of wheel hubs, color consistency, and surface finish, enabling powder coatings to better adapt to their existing production processes.
